Beginner Yoga FAQs (Southern Maryland)

Searching for a beginner-friendly yoga studio near Charlotte Hall? Here are 10  of the most common questions we hear from new yoga students.

Yes—yoga is one of the most beginner-friendly ways to improve flexibility, build strength, balance, and reduce everyday stress. At My Happy Yoga Place, we guide you step-by-step and offer options so you feel supported from day one.

No. Flexibility is something you build over time. Many people start yoga because they feel stiff or tight—our teachers offer modifications and props so you can start comfortably and safely.

Most people like to start with Gentle Flow, Flow + Recharge, or Yin Yoga because they’re supportive, approachable, and help you learn at a steady pace. If you’re unsure, we’ll help you pick the best first class based on your comfort level and goals.

Wear comfortable clothes you can move in—leggings, joggers, shorts, and a breathable top all work. You don’t need fancy yoga clothes; comfort matters most.

Just bring water and arrive a few minutes early. We provide everything you need at no cost—mats, blocks, blankets, bolsters, straps, and props. If you have your own mat or props, you’re welcome to bring them.

A great starting point is 1–2 classes per week. Consistency matters more than intensity—most people notice improvements in how they feel, move, and handle stress when they practice regularly.

Many students say yoga helps them feel calmer because it combines movement with breathing and mindfulness. While it’s not medical treatment, it can be a powerful self-care practice for managing everyday stress.

You’re not alone—and you’re welcome here. You don’t need to be athletic or experienced. We’re a judgment-free, beginner-friendly studio and we offer options for every body.

Yoga can often be adapted, and we encourage you to move at a pace that feels safe and supportive. We offer modifications and props in every class. If you’re under medical care or unsure, check with your healthcare provider first.

New students can book a First Class FREE to try us out. After that, we offer affordable memberships and class options designed to fit different budgets—so you can practice consistently without feeling locked into a long-term contract.
